- Became Taylor's first athlete to be named an All-American in two sports, earning the recognition in cross country in 1967 and 1968 and in track in 1969

- Became Taylor's first national champion, winning the 1969 NAIA steeplechase with a record time
- A Gates-Howard Award winner
