- As a student-athlete, led Taylor basketball team to a conference championship in 1959
- Ranked 12th nationally in free-throw percentage and went on to win the Gates-Howard Award
- Returned to coach Taylor baseball to five conference championships and a 4th place national ranking in 1969.
