Taylor Stumbles in MSFA Opener at RV Concordia
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – One week after opening its 2023 season with a thrilling win inside Turner Stadium, the Taylor football team headed north to open its league slate and fell by a 54-14 margin at RV Concordia (1-0, 1-0 MSFA).
The Trojans had six different players average at least 4.0 yards per rush in the contest on their way to 175 yards on the ground in the game as a unit. Braxton Ream led the way with 60 yards on five carries, while Damon Hockett and Kyle Turanchick each punched in scores.
The ground game was not enough however to keep pace with the Cardinals, as Taylor managed only 216 total yards of offense in the game and turned the ball over three times.
Aven Jones led the defense for the second time in as many games this season with seven tackles. Bryson Scott and Jeremiah Mansfield teamed for TU's lone sack of the day and Evan MacMillan recorded the squad's only takeaway with an interception that he returned for 46 yards.
Isaiah Grybauskus handled the punting duties well, averaging 46.7 yards per boot in three tries.
Taylor (1-1, 0-1 MSFA) will take a break from league play to tackle back-to-back NCAA Division I foes in its next two outings. The Trojans will play at Butler (0-1) on September 9, and at Dayton (0-1) on September 16.
