UPLAND, Ind. – An efficient second-half surge fueled by Jackson Lewis led the Trojans to an 83-77 victory over Trinity International (3-2) on Tuesday night.
Lewis posted a career-high 21 points on 11 shot attempts while contributing six assists, four rebounds, and two steals for an all-around stellar night.
Jason Hubbard and Anton Webb posted a pair of double-doubles for the Trojans, with the forwards also swatting away six shots combined.
After trailing 43-39 at the break, Taylor's defense and efficient offense powered a 15-1 run in which Lewis tallied eight points on three shots during the first six minutes to lead 54-44.
Trinity International quickly went on a 10-0 run to level things up again.
The momentum then swung to TU again, scoring 12 straight points capped off by a monstrous dunk by Webb.
Trinity International attempted to come back with two late flurries but was denied with emphatic dunks by Hubbard each time. Hubbard rocked the rim on an alley-oop from Webb before throwing down a one-handed slam off a fast break opportunity.
The first half was tight throughout, with Taylor struggling from beyond the arc but staying strong defensively inside the paint.
Nate Paarlberg provided a much-needed spark off the bench during the first period, making three shots for six points.
Trinity International was red-hot from beyond the arc during the first half, splashing in seven threes from five separate players.
The home side struggled from the charity stripe shooting under 50 percent while also making just 30 percent from beyond the arc. Taylor made up for that by dominating down low, scoring 48 points in the painted area compared to 24 for Trinity International.
Taylor begins Crossroads League action on Saturday, November 19th, against No. 14 Marian (5-0) inside Odle Arena, with tip-off set for 1:00 pm.
