Late Bucket Sinks Taylor in Low-Scoring Affair
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – After tying the game with ten seconds remaining on a layup by Kaden Fuhrmann, Harris Stowe used a tip-in off an offensive rebound for the decisive bucket in a 56-54 loss for the Trojans.
Despite trailing and beginning the game 2-18 from beyond the arc, the Trojans were able to stay in the game by holding the Hornets to under 37 percent from the field.
With 30 seconds left, trailing by four, Anton Webb hit two free throws to cut the deficit in half. Harris Stowe subsequently missed the front end of a one-and-one opportunity to give TU the chance to tie or take the lead. Fuhrmann made a layup to notch the contest at 54 before the aforementioned tip-in broke the hearts of the Trojan faithful in the crowd.
Webb was the only Trojan to score in double figures as part of his third double-double of the season with 18 points and ten rebounds. The junior transfer added three assists and two steals to his incredible outing.
Taylor (4-3) connected on three of its final four three-pointers of the game as it clawed back into the context after trailing by eight early in the second half.
The game started brightly for TU as Gavin Yoon splashed in a triple to extend their lead to five after three minutes of play. The Trojans kept the lead as both teams struggled to score until the Hornets went on a 14-4 run to take a 23-15 lead.
Harris Stowe extended the advantage to 29-20 before a free throw, and then a coast-to-coast drive finished by a layup from Webb got Taylor within six at the break.
Finding a basket was tough for both teams as The Trojans shot 35.4 percent from the field, 22.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 65.2 percent from the charity stripe.
Taylor has a week off before beginning Crossroads League action on Saturday, November 18, back inside Odle Arena, with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 pm.
