Webb Scores 41 to Lead Trojans in Thrilling Double Overtime Victory Against IU East
RICHMOND, Ind. – An astounding performance by Anton Webb, who scored 41 points, grabbed 19 rebounds, and dished out nine assists to lead Taylor to a 121-115 double-overtime victory over IU East on the road on Tuesday night.
The senior big man scored 12 points combined throughout both overtimes as the Trojans never trailed and quickly pulled away in the second extra session. Webb finished one assist shy of the first triple-double in program history in a historic performance for the Dayton, Ohio native.
The first overtime saw five lead changes and the score tied three times, with both teams splitting a pair of free throws in the final fifteen seconds to keep the game level, as the Red Wolves missed a desperation three at the buzzer.
Webb started the game with seven of TU's first nine points as an early 9-5 advantage quickly turned into a 19-9 deficit as IU East shot lights out throughout the evening.
The Trojans knotted the game at 32 as Izaiah Day splashed in one of his five triples before IU East (5-6, 1-0 RSC) took control of the first half and led by five going into halftime.
The starting lineup was invigorated after the break and went on a 14-2 run, forcing three turnovers and hitting six of seven shots from the field over the stretch to take a 58-51 lead.
It seemed as if whoever had the ball last would win the game as both squads traded baskets throughout the half, and five consecutive buckets from beyond the arc ended saw regulation end all level at 93.
Day had a career-high 23 points after being inserted back into the starting lineup while adding three assists, three steals, and three rebounds in 39 minutes of action. Jackson Ullom had a season-high 18 points on an efficient nine shots.
As a team, the Trojans shot 56 percent from the field and 48.6 percent from three-point land while assisting on 26 of 42 buckets and grabbing 13 offensive rebounds in a terrific offensive display. The 121 points are the most since a 121-58 victory over Oakland City in January of 2021.
Kobe Funderburk and Kaden Fuhrmann also finished in double digits, scoring 12 points apiece as Funderburk found his shooting touch with four triples. Fuhrmann added six assists in the thrilling victory for TU.
Taylor (9-4, 2-2 CL) gets almost two weeks off to enjoy the holidays before playing on the road against Northwestern Ohio (6-6, 3-3 WHAC) on Monday, December 30, with tip-off set for 4:00 pm.
