DAVENPORT, Iowa – Taylor flirted with a statement win at No. 10 Saint Ambrose on Saturday, before ultimately falling short in a 10-7 contest.
TU rallied back from a quick, 5-0, deficit, changing the contest with a three-goal flurry in the final 3:02 of the high-scoring opening period.
Each team added one goal in the second and the 6-4 halftime margin evolved into a 6-6 tie with goals from Wyatt Marshall and Will Saxby in the third.
Another spurt from the hosts (1-0) pushed the outcome in SAU's favor, with a late goal from TU ending a four-goal streak and forcing a final score of 10-7.
Marshall led the Taylor attack with two goals, with Aidan Craig scoring once and adding four assists. Jackson Dale and Reid Gerig scored one goal and assisted one other, with Saxby ending at one goal, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Ben Harrell played well in net, posting 12 saves and yielding just the 10 goals to the tenth-ranked Fighting Bees.
Taylor (0-3) will continue its challenging slate at No. 8 William Penn (2-1) on March 1.
