JACKSON, Mich. – Senior Taylor Westgate of the TU women's basketball team (2-0) opened the 2023-2024 season in a big way with a pair of double-doubles, which earned her the Crossroads League's Women's Basketball Player of the Week Award for Oct. 23-29.
The forward had an excellent all-around stat line in game one's 82-55 victory versus Michigan-Dearborn on Oct. 26, with much of her damage coming in a decisive third quarter. Westgate finished the night with 20 points, 12 rebounds and two assists, while committing only one turnover.
The next night, Oct. 27 at Calumet, Westgate paced TU with 17 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks in just 26 minutes of action. The senior was efficient with her shooting as well on Friday, going 6-12 from the field, including knocking home a three-pointer in the 88-37 win.
Westgate and the Trojans are back in action Wednesday, Nov. 1 to face Madonna (1-0) at 6 p.m. inside Odle Arena.
