Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 16 Marian on Road
INDIANAPOLIS – The Taylor women's basketball team fell 84-49 in Crossroads League action Wednesday evening at 16th-ranked Marian (9-1, 3-0 CL).
A slow start offensively for TU led to the Knights grabbing an 18-4 advantage through the first quarter, and the Trojans could not fully recover.
Kendall Wayne did start a second-quarter comeback, however, with a three-pointer that continued her strong start to the season from beyond the arc, where she has made 13-of-23 attempts.
Kacey Ott also went to work in the paint and at the charity stripe for nine points in the period, while Ava Henson connected on a pair of jumpers as Taylor cut its deficit to six points at 28-22.
The Trojans trailed 35-24 at halftime before a tough third quarter saw Marian, which has won 38 consecutive true home games, take a commanding lead.
Ellie Vermilion, Whitney Warfel and Henson each made multiple field goals in the fourth quarter, but the Knights ran away with the win.
Warfel made her first start for TU and led the team in scoring with 10 points, while Quinn Kelly scored two points in every quarter to lead the reserves with eight points.
Wayne collected seven rebounds and two steals, the latter of which tied for the team high with Henson's two steals.
Taylor (4-5, 0-3 CL) looks to pick up its first league win when it hosts Grace (5-3, 0-3) on Saturday at 1 p.m. inside Odle Arena.
