GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Junior Addy Bailey terminated a career-high 16 kills while senior Kayla Springer added 13 kills and freshman Amanda Adams added ten kills to lead the Taylor women's volleyball team to a four-set victory over Northwestern Ohio on Saturday.
Taylor (17-14) tallied a hitting percentage of .231 against the Racers with 58 kills and 22 hitting errors in 156 attempts.
The Trojans jumped out to an early advantage and cruised to a 25-17 win in the opening set then added a 25-21 victory in set two before UNOH got on the board with a 25-23 win in the third set. The Trojans closed out the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set to cap an otherwise difficult weekend with a victory.
Junior Haley Harrell dished out a season-high 54 assists in the victory and added 14 digs for the Trojan defense. Sophomore Samantha Korn tallied 23 digs while Adams added 11 digs and senior Laura Craig finished with ten digs.
The victory allowed the Trojans to finish the weekend a 1-3 after TU dropped a pair of matches on Friday and suffered a three-set loss to #RV Siena Heights on Saturday morning.
Taylor challenged the Saints in each set but couldn't come up with the points when the Trojans need them most, suffering three straight two-point losses (25-23, 26-24, 25-23).
Adams was impressive for Taylor in the loss as the freshman tallied a team-high 13 kills with just two hitting errors in 31 attacks. Senior Rachel Bouma added seven kills for the Trojans while Harrell dished out 28 assists and Craig added a team-high 20 digs.
Adams and Bailey each earned spots on the AAC All-Tournament teams for their performances.
Taylor will now close out the regular season with four straight Crossroads League matches, including home dates with Mount Vernon Nazarene and Goshen. The Trojans hit the road for a game with Huntington on Wednesday, Oct. 18th and return home to host Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 5:00 pm.
