Springer Surpasses 2,000 Career Assists at TU in Competitive Defeat
UPLAND, Ind. – Junior transfer Lindsay Springer recorded the 2,000th assist of her Taylor volleyball career in a competitive, four-set battle between the Trojans and No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan (15-2, 8-0 CL) that went IWU's way Saturday afternoon.
Springer reached the milestone on the last rally of the second period, setting up a kill for Reagan Kleiman that gave TU a 25-22 win and tied the match at one set apiece.
Kleiman was dominant all throughout the match, tying for a match high with 16 kills against just four errors for a .375 attack percentage.
In the opening set, the Wildcats flexed their muscles with 16 kills and an overwhelming .419 hitting percentage as they took it, 25-17.
Taylor started the second set out strong, holding an early five-point advantage on three occasions. IWU came back to within a point, but Jaylynn Dunsmore, Grace Ieremia and Kleiman all helped shut the door as the Trojans knotted the match.
TU held a slim advantage in the opening portion of the third set, but it was the Wildcats who crawled back to win in a period of entertaining action that featured 19 digs from the home team.
Indiana Wesleyan put the finishing touches on the match with a lopsided fourth-set victory to stay undefeated in Crossroads League play.
Springer finished her day with 37 assists to raise her total at TU to 2,019 and move her combined collegiate tally to 2,457. The setter added seven kills without an error in the match and seven digs.
Dunsmore had nine kills at an impressive .438 clip and added two blocks, while Abi Powers notched two service aces. McKaylah Flagle and Chloe Holtz anchored the defense with 16 and 13 digs, respectively.
Taylor (7-13, 2-6 CL) closes out the first half of the CL season on the road at Bethel (13-8, 3-5) on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m.
