KANSAS CITY – The NAIA announced its Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Wednesday for meets from Sept. 2-8, and Taylor's Jaynie Halterman claimed the honor for her 14.1-second win at the Indiana Wesleyan Twilight Invitational on Sept. 6.
The announcement comes on the heels of another national award collected by Halterman, released Monday, in which the USTFCCCA named the freshman the NAIA Women's Athlete of the Week.
Halterman finished the 6k race at IWU's Invite – her first collegiate competition – in just 21:58.2 to lead No. 4 Taylor to a team title.
Prior to Wednesday, the Taylor women's cross country program had not received an NAIA Runner of the Week honor since Halterman's current teammate, Noel VanderWall, earned the award in September 2022. It also marks the first NAIA Athlete of the Week award for all Taylor athletes since Sam Spiegel of the men's soccer team was named Defensive Player of the Week in November 2023.
The fourth-ranked TU women's cross country team is back in action Sept. 27 at the Mizzou Gans Creek Classic.
