Trojans Fall on Senior Day to No. 25 Marian
UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (17-25, 19-25, 21-25) to No. 25 Marian (19-6, 10-5 CL) late Saturday afternoon at home on its Senior Day.
In a brief pre-match ceremony, the Trojans celebrated eight seniors who have helped produce over 80 wins throughout the past four seasons, including a 2022 NAIA Opening Round victory. Those seniors are student manager, Arika Warren, and players, Sarah Scott, Chloe Holtz, Jaylynn Dunsmore, Gracie Conway, Alli Pflugner, Grace Ieremia and Jen Springer.
Taylor started play Saturday strong on the offensive end with 13 kills against just five errors for a .216 hitting percentage in the first set, but it could not contain the Knights' attack – which was without an error in 17 kills.
Junior setter Lindsay Springer had 11 assists in the first frame, which saw her eclipse 1,000 assists on the season for a second straight year.
Daya Vestal, Ieremia and Shaye Watson led TU's attack in set number as the hosts hung around through most of the set, but Marian took over late to put Taylor in a 2-0 hole.
TU was within a point, 19-18, as it looked to avoid a sweep in the third set. Sarah Scott recorded a season-best three kills in the frame while she, Vestal, Watson and Ieremia combined for four team blocks, though the effort was not enough.
Springer finished with 33 assists as she helped set up Vestal with a team-high eight kills. Reagan Kleiman, Ieremia, Watson and Conway each had five-plus kills apiece as well.
McKaylah Flagle tallied a match-high 17 digs and had both of the Trojans' service aces on the day.
Taylor (10-17, 5-10 CL) travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana, on Wednesday for a match at Saint Francis (10-17, 3-12), which is scheduled for 7 p.m.
