Trojans Fall Twice in Georgia
EMERSON, Ga. – Taylor suffered a 3-1 loss to RV Judson and a 9-7 setback to Bluefield on Saturday, as a pair of late rallies came up short for the Trojans. TU ended its stay at the Perfect Game Complex with a 1-3 mark.
Judson (5-3) jumped to a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer in the third and tacked on an insurance tally in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead into the sixth of Saturday's first game.
Nick Saldutti and Nick Hollowell singled to open the sixth, before Tanner Watson hit a one-out single to load the bases in Taylor's lone threat of the contest. TU could not break through for a big inning though, as a run-scoring walk to Jake West was all the damage the Trojans could muster.
Jordan Crabb pitched well in the loss, allowing only two earned runs in 4.2 innings of work and striking out five. Rob Fox worked the final four outs, picking up two strikeouts without allowing any additional damage.
Bluefield (2-5) spoiled an impressive seven-run, 12-hit showing from the TU offense in the night cap, with a four-run frame in the third and a five-run outburst in the top of the seventh of its 9-7 win.
Taylor scored three in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth to turn a 4-1 deficit into a 7-4 lead going to the final frame, but BC broke loose for five tallies to take a 9-7 edge into the bottom half of the inning.
TU positioned itself to dent the scoreboard for the fourth-straight inning after Watson and Nathan Targgart singled and West walked to load the bases with nobody out, but the rally fizzled as the next three batters were harmlessly retired.
Targgart went 3-4 with a double, while Reed doubled twice, Saldutti went 2-4 with a double and run and Jared Adkins tripled and scored. Hollowell added two more hits and Brian Moore went 1-4 with two runs batted in, a run scored and his fifth stolen base of the season.
Taylor (1-3) will return to action next weekend, when it plays a four-game series at Milligan (4-4) on February 19 and 20 in Milligan College, Tennessee.
