UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor outscored Cincinnati Christian, 33-5, with 21-4 and 12-1 victories over the Eagles in the 2016 home opener at Winterholter Field on Saturday afternoon. Nick Hollowell led the way by hitting for the cycle in the doubleheader.
Taylor collected 31 hits and clubbed four home runs during the two games and was equally as dominant on the mound, with 29 strikeouts and only one walk allowed in 16 innings of work.
The Trojans rapped five of their 17 hits for extra bases in the 21-4 rout in game one. Hollowell highlighted the onslaught with a home run, a triple and four runs batted in, while Lincoln Reed also drove home four. Nathan Targgart had three hits and three RBI, Tanner Watson went 2-4 with three runs and three RBI and Brian Moore scored three times and added two more steals without being caught.
When the dust had settled, 11 different players had scored at least once for TU and nine players had knocked in at least one run.
Jordan Crabb fanned eight batters in four innings of work and was followed by Jamie Bristol (1-1), who notched five strikeouts in three scoreless frames for the win.
It was all Taylor again in the second game, as Watson, Reed and Josh Pfotenhauer all homered in the 12-1 affair, and Hollowell stayed locked in with three more hits and a pair of RBI.
Andrew Feldman made his first collegiate start and was followed by Logan Rodgers, Rob Fox and Matt Patton, as the group racked up 14 strikeouts without a walk in seven efficient innings. Rodgers (2-0) earned the win out of the bullpen, piling up six strikeouts and only allowing one base runner in three innings.
Taylor (6-4) will head to Kentucky next weekend, to take on No. 7 Lindsey Wilson on Friday, March 4 and No. 19 Campbellsville on Saturday, March 5.
