WALESKA, Ga. – Taylor let a prime opportunity for a strong road win at Reinhardt slip away on Wednesday, as the Trojans continued their recent defensive struggles with five errors to squander a 10-run, 14-hit showing in a 12-10 defeat.
Jake West and Nathan Targgart each homered and collected two hits in the contest, while Lincoln Reed doubled among three hits. Nick Hollowell went 2-4 with a double and two runs batted in and Tanner Watson went 2-4 with a run scored.
TU could not capitalize on the strong performance at the plate however, allowing nine earned runs and giving up 16 hits to the Eagles (21-10) in the nine-inning affair. The five fielding errors led to a trio of unearned runs, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Matt Patton was the lone bright spot on the mound for the Purple and Gold, continuing his recent resurgence with 1.1 innings without an earned run and only one hit allowed.
Taylor (18-9) will take Thursday off, before beginning a three-game series at Toccoa Falls (5-11) with a single game on Friday at 3:00 pm. TU will then play a doubleheader at TFC on Saturday, beginning at noon to close its six-game Spring Break trip to the Peach State.
