Webb’s Double-Double Fuels Second-Half Comeback Victory
UPLAND, Ind. – Anton Webb posted an impressive 13-point 21 rebound double-double as the Trojans stormed back to beat Adrian 75-69 in the home opener on Wednesday night.
Webb was a dominant force inside and provided six assists and two steals, both of which led the team in a stat-sheet-stuffing performance for the standout senior.
The Bulldogs came out scorching and took a 16-3 lead, making five of their first eight shots, while Taylor made only one of its first seven shots and turned the ball over three times in a scattered start for the home squad.
A dunk from Izaiah Day after coming off the bench ignited a Trojans run to get within six, and then they continued to chip away at the lead until Jackson Ullom buried a triple to take the first lead of the game at 25-24.
Neither team made a field goal for the next two and a half minutes before a flurry of baskets put Adrian (0-1) ahead 31-28 going into halftime.
A flip switched for the Trojans after the break as Webb led a 25-6 run in the first eight minutes, with the senior scoring nine points, grabbing four rebounds, and dishing out an assist during the turnaround.
TU (3-0) held a comfortable lead until the Bulldogs made a run of their own to cut the lead to 58-56 on a three-pointer with eight minutes remaining.
Buckets by Kaden Fuhrmann and Nate Paarlberg extended the lead once again, and the Trojans did not let Adrian get within a possession the rest of the way, with Fuhrmann delivering the knockout blow on a triple with three minutes left to extend the lead to seven.
Taylor made their final four shots from the charity stripe to close things out with a victory in Austin Peters' first home game as the Head Coach.
Fuhrmann led the team with 15 points as Kobe Funderburk and Day joined him and Webb in double digits with 14 and 11, respectively.
The paint was controlled by TU, who outrebound the bulldogs by 15 and outscored them by 16 down low as both squads shot over 80 percent from the free-throw line.
The Trojans stay at home to play Siena Heights (0-0) on Saturday, November 2, with tip-off set for 7:00 pm.
