Dominance Down Low Pushes Trojans Past Trailblazers
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor controlled the paint to the tune of 50 points down low, and all three post players put up 12 or more points in an emphatic 84-62 victory on Wednesday over Ohio Christian (5-3).
The trio of Anton Webb, Pete Combs, and Levin Smith combined for 40 points and 20 rebounds while shooting over 70 percent from the field. Webb tallied another double-double as both Combs and Smith posted career-highs with 14 points apiece.
Chaz Harvey continued his excellence with 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals, keying an early run to take control of the game in the first five minutes of action. The senior transfer had 10 of the first 14 points for TU and fueled a 10-0 run to give TU a double-digit lead early in the contest.
A Combs dunk with under four minutes to play gave the Trojans their largest lead of the opening half at 33-16, and the lead never fell to single digits again.
After the break, Webb scored eight points in a five-minute stretch as Taylor (6-2, 1-1 CL) took complete control and quickly pushed the lead to 25 on a triple by Izaiah Day.
Ben Michel capped a 15-5 run, which gave TU its largest lead of the night at 75-46, as the junior scored six points off the bench.
The Trojans coasted to a 22-point victory despite shooting under 30 percent from three-point land. A 27-37 mark inside the arc combined with a 42-27 rebounding advantage allowed TU to run away with the contest.
Taylor jumps back into Crossroads League action after Thanksgiving, with a matchup against Marian (4-3, 0-2 CL) on the road on Wednesday, December 4, with tip-off set for 7:30 pm.
