Trojans Take Second at The Grande
JACKSON, Mich. – The Taylor men's golf team claimed a runner-up finish in the 14-team field at the Bill Bockwitz Classic at The Grande Golf Club on Tuesday.
Taylor fired a team score of 303 during Tuesday's final round to maintain its position on the leaderboard. The Trojans entered the day trailing NCAA Division II Wayne State by a single shot but TU couldn't overcome the deficit as Wayne State held off the Trojans for a five-shot victory.
Sophomore Javan Johnson entered the final round with the individual lead at 2-under par after firing rounds of 74 and 68 on Monday but a 75 during Tuesday's final round dropped the Franklin, Indiana native to third place in the individual standings.
Nate Morris provided the low round of the day for the Trojans as the senior posted a 1-over par 73 to lead TU during the final round. Morris carded a 54-hole total of 226 (82-71-73) to finish in 16th place in the 80-player field.
A pair of freshmen were next on the leaderboard for Taylor as Erik Fahlen and Drew Pickering each finished tied for 19th place at 228. Pickering posted rounds of 78, 73, 77 while Fahlen added scores of 72-76-80.
Junior Brady Roberts added a tie for 41st place at 235 (85-72-78).
The Trojans finished with a 54-hole team score of 893 (306-284-303) to finish ahead of Crossroads League foes Marian (906), Indiana Wesleyan (907), Spring Arbor (918), Saint Francis (924), Grace (944), Mount Vernon Nazarene (968), and Huntington (1,015).
Taylor will return to action on October 6-7 as the Trojans host the Egypt Valley Intercollegiate at Egypt Valley Country Club in Ada, Michigan.
