Trojans Battle to Draw with Trolls
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor (1-2-1) fought to a 1-1 draw Wednesday evening against Trinity Christian (0-1-1) in a hotly contested match.
The Trojans and Trolls played an even match, both taking 11 shots, with TU placing eight of those on goal compared to six for TCC.
The first half was a defensive battle, with neither team able to create a clear-cut chance at goal. The Trojans forced three saves from the Trolls' keeper, on shots from Brian Matipa, Jhon Alzate, and Moses Kabuswe. The Trolls failed to put a single shot on frame during the first half.
After halftime, both teams saw an uptick in offensive pressure, as they searched for the opening goal.
The offensive pressure paid off early in the second half for the Trojans, striking in the 63rd minute. Sam Spiegel sent a long pass up the field and it evaded the Trinity Christian defenders, before Andrew Siegelin controlled it with one touch and fired the ball past the goalie and into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Siegelin's second goal in as many games, as he scored the opener in last Saturday's match as well.
Trinity Christian continued to battle and found an equalizer in the 72nd minute. James Hutchins headed a goal off of a free kick from Martin Markovic to tie the game at 1-1.
Taylor aggressively searched for a winner in the dying minutes of the match, only to be denied by the Trolls' goalie.
Spiegel continued to stand tall between the posts, adding five more saves, while the defense of Collin Maris and James McBride was stout throughout the evening.
The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday, September 3rd, as they travel to Lawrence Tech (0-1-1) to take on the Blue Devils at 7:00 pm.
