INDIANAPOLIS – Taylor (4-8-5, 2-4-2) grabbed an important 1-0 victory over Marian (5-9-2, 2-5-1) in its quest to reach the Crossroads League Tournament as the regular season nears its end.
Taylor and Marian played an aggressive first half, with 14 total shots and eight landing on target, but neither team could find the back of the net.
Jacob Susud was spectacular in-between the posts, grabbing six saves in the first half to keep the game level at zero.
Shortly after the break, Taylor earned a penalty that Sawyer Watterson slotted into the bottom right corner for a 1-0 advantage. The goal for Watterson gave him four on the season, which leads the Trojans.
The great defense by TU continued in the second half as the Knights struggled to get a shot on target, forcing only one save by Susud after halftime.
Taylor's control of the second half stretched to the offensive end, where after the converted penalty Cam Broadfoot, Brock Carpenter, and Jhon Alzate each forced a save from the Marion keeper as Taylor attempted to double its advantage.
The victory sees the Trojans leap into seventh place with one match remaining on the season before the Crossroads League tournament begins on Saturday, November 5.
TU will travel to Fort Wayne to face Saint Francis (7-8-2, 0-7-1) in its final regular season match in Crossroads League action. The match on Saturday, October 29, is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 pm.
