
Elkin Wins 110-Meter Hurdles at Lancer Invitational

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The Taylor men's track & field team was back in action on Friday at the Lancer Invitational, where Isaac Elkin highlighted the TU performance by securing the team's lone title of the day in the 110-meter hurdles.
Elkin earned the win by outpacing two Crossroads League foes, finishing in first with a time of 17:02. Elkin also competed in the long jump event, in which he placed third of four with a mark of 6.10 meters.
Meanwhile, Lextin Willis, a freshman classmate of Elkin, placed second in the 400-meters with a season-best time of 52.76.
In the 100-meters, Braden Bixler, posted a team-season-best time of 11.34 en route to a third-place finish. The sophomore native of Berne, Indiana, also competed in the 400-meter hurdles and finished second with a time of 59.60.
A squadron of seven TU runners then competed in the 800-meters, led by Bryce Noble and Nathan Brainer, who finished sixth and seventh, respectively, among a field of 33 runners. The teammates crossed the finish line just milliseconds apart, with Noble claiming a time of 1:59.51 while Brainer finished in 1:59.56.
On the field side of competition, TU senior, Liam Hesting, finished fourth of 19 throwers in the shot put, recording a distance of 14.22 meters for his third-best throw of the season. Seth Gormley, meanwhile, executed his second-best throw of the year with a mark of 9.73 meters.
While most of the TU men's track & field team competed at the Lancer Invitational, senior, Sammy Sommers, competed at the highly regarded Drake Relays in Iowa. Sommers competed in the long jump, placing 11th of 17 total jumpers with a mark of 6.88 meters.
The Taylor men's and women's track & field teams will now fix their eyes on the Crossroads League Championships, which are hosted by Marian University and set to commence on Thursday, May 4, at 8:30 am.
