KANSAS CITY – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics recently announced its 2015 Softball All-America Teams, with Taylor freshman Davis Carter being named as a NAIA Second-Team All-American performer.
Carter is the third player in the history of the Taylor softball program to receive All-American recognition, with all three coming during the past two seasons. Carter follows 2014 All-Americans, Alex Lovelace and Lauren Ehle, who also claimed the honor following outstanding rookie seasons.
Carter was one of eight freshmen among 40 student-athletes to be named as First-Team or Second-Team All-Americans and was among a group of six Crossroads League performers to earn All-American status.
The Greenwood, Indiana native batted .429 in 49 games for TU during the 2015 campaign, leading the Trojans with nine home runs, 15 doubles, 51 runs batted in, a .701 slugging percentage and a 1.159 OPS, all while striking out only four times in 154 at bats.
Carter's 2015 season statistics ranked among the best in TU's program history for a single season, as the slugging catcher ranked among the top-five single-season totals for Taylor in six offensive categories.
Carter reached an even higher level during league play, hitting .505 with an .860 slugging percentage over 32 Crossroads League games. Carter led the CL in batting average, ranked second in slugging percentage, was third in RBI (41) and home runs (7), ended fourth in doubles (12) and ranked sixth in total bases (80) against Crossroads League pitching.
Carter helped propel Taylor to a 36-16 overall record, notching the second-highest win total in program history on the heels of a record-setting 42 victories in 2014. The Trojans are poised to return three NAIA All-Americans among 12 returning letter winners for the 2016 campaign. That group will include all nine offensive starters and three-of-four pitchers from the 2015 staff.
