Taylor Falls on the Road Against UNOH
LIMA, Ohio – Taylor dropped a pair of contests in its final non-league games of the season on Saturday against Northwestern Ohio (5-4).
A pair of juniors had incredible offense showings in the defeats, with Madisyn Standridge and Delaynee McCreary stepping up at the plate. Standridge had three hits and a walk, crossing the plate four times and driving in three runners while swiping three bases with her incredible speed. Meanwhile, McCreary paced the squad with four hits while scoring twice and driving in a pair of runners.
Seven runs in the opening two frames put TU behind the eight ball and forced a pitching change, with a late comeback not enough to overturn things in a 10-4 loss.
Katie Kottlowski came in relief in both games and fired four and a third innings of three-run ball in the opener in a solid showing inside the circle. The lefty fanned two batters and kept the home squad scoreless for a while to give Taylor a chance.
After Taylor manufactured a run in the fourth, Standridge had her loudest hit of the day, smashing a home run to center field with two runners on after a pair of walks to breathe life into the game, with the Trojans trailing by three in the fifth.
The Racers responded with a pair of runs to regain complete control of the contest on the way to victory.
Taylor began the second game much better and scored in the opening frame for a brief 1-0 advantage before the score was knotted at one after a run for UNOH in the second.
The pairing of Standridge and McCreary combined to retake the lead in the third. Standridge led off with a single and stole second before McCreary ripped a base knock down the left-field line for her second RBI of the day.
The Racers had a gigantic fourth inning, scoring five times to take a 6-2 lead before TU responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of a pair of miscues to cut the deficit in half.
The squads traded a run each in the final two frames as TU fell 7-5 and dropped its first doubleheader of the year.
Taylor (9-3) begins Crossroads League play on Tuesday, March 11, against Mount Vernon Nazarene (7-2). The doubleheader on the road has a scheduled first pitch of 3:00 pm.
