UPLAND, Ind. - Kelsey Bryant led all players with 19 points, eight rebounds, four steals and four assists to fuel a 74-60 home win over Mount Vernon Nazarene on Friday evening.
The Trojans feasted on 24 MVNU turnovers, turning the miscues into a 25-3 advantage in points off of turnovers and a 20-2 edge in fast-break points.
The sloppy play from the Cougars allowed Taylor to hold the lead throughout the contest, as TU jumped to a 5-0 lead before using a 13-2 spurt late in the first half to vault the lead into double figures at 29-15 with 3:57 to play in the opening period.
Taylor would never look back from there, as it pushed a 13-point lead at the break to a 19-point gap in the opening moments of the second stanza and cruised to the 74-60 win.
The Purple and Gold continued its strong play on the glass, beating MVNU (1-13, 0-5 CL) by a 39-30 count in rebounds and turning 12 offensive caroms into 10 second-chance points.
Bryant ended as the lone Trojan to reach double figures in points, as all 12 TU players who entered the game found the scoring column. Kelci Freds ended with nine points, while Becca Daniels pulled down seven rebounds to go with four points.
Taylor (6-11, 1-4 CL) will get right back into action on Saturday, when it hosts Spring Arbor (9-7, 3-2 CL) at 1:00 pm inside Odle Arena.
