UPLAND, Ind. - Taylor saw a two-game winning streak against Bethel come to an end on Wednesday night inside Odle Arena, as the Pilots drew even with TU in the Crossroads League standings with an 81-68 defeat of the Trojans.
One game after hoisting 51 three-point attempts in a road loss at Mount Vernon Nazarene, Bethel switched gears against the TU defense, attacking the paint relentlessly throughout the contest en route to a 50-16 edge over Taylor in the post.
The trend was significant in the opening 20 minutes, as the Pilots racked up a 30-2 gap in the paint to fuel a 47-point scoring outburst against the Taylor defense. Bethel capitalized on the close looks by hitting 54.3 percent of its shots in opening stanza.
Things did not change in the second period, with Bethel ending the contest shooting 53.3 percent from the field, while turning 20 TU turnovers into a 28-8 edge in points off of miscues.
Taylor never found its rhythm on either end of the court, connecting on only 35.5 percent of its shots in the game and attempting 32 three-point baskets. The 81 points given up also marked the highest total allowed by TU in four weeks.
Bethel's (8-13, 3-6 CL) duo of Angelique Moore and Chelsea Ward stole the show, combining for 51 points on 20-of-28 shooting. Moore led all players with 26 points, while Ward ended with 25 points, six assists and four steals.
Kelsey Bryant scored 22 points on five-of-nine shooting from deep to pace Taylor and also added nine rebounds and four helpers. Bryant moved to 985 points for her career to climb within 15 points of becoming TU's 21st player in program history to join the 1,000-point club.
Kelci Freds and Monica Compton also cracked double figures, as Freds ended with 14 points to go along with two blocks and Compton had 11 points, nine boards and one steal.
Taylor (8-13, 3-6 CL) will look to bounce back on Saturday, with Grace (9-12, 5-4 CL) coming to Odle Arena for a 1:00 pm start.
