Bryant Lifts Taylor to Road Win at Marian
INDIANAPOLIS - Taylor rode a 26-point, 10-rebound double-double from Kelsey Bryant to a 66-62 road win over Marian on Saturday afternoon. The win moves TU into a tie for sixth in the Crossroads League win column with six games left in the regular season.
Bryant gave TU its first lead of the game and then sparked a pivotal 11-2 spurt with a three-point play that once again gave the Trojans the lead at 20-17. Ashley Fouch followed with a three-point play of her own, before Kelci Freds knocked down a three-point shot and Shayna Wood connected from the paint to open up a 28-19 Trojan lead.
Taylor would eventually take a 30-25 edge to the half and maintained the lead until the Knights drew even at 39-39. Marian (13-11, 6-6 CL) would continue its second-half surge to pull in front, 45-43, at the 10:42 mark and pushed ahead by as many as six points.
The Trojans would not give in, battling back to reclaim the lead on a pair of free throws from Becca Daniels at the 5:16 mark and again going up by one, at 62-61, with 2:31 to play on two more free throws from Bryant.
The lead would hold, as a bucket from Daniels gave TU a 64-61 edge and a pair of free throws from Freds with 19 seconds on the clock sealed the 66-62 win.
Bryant led all players with a season-high 26 points on eight-of-11 shooting from the floor and also topped TU with 10 boards and 34 minutes of work.
The Trojan reserves also played a role in the win, combining for 33 points behind 13 from Daniels, eight from Wood and seven from Freds.
Taylor (9-15, 4-8 CL) will continue its stretch of five-straight road games on Wednesday at Mount Vernon Nazarene (3-18, 2-10 CL). The game will have an early start time of 5:00 pm as part of a doubleheader with the TU and MVNU men's teams.
