Late Triples Sink Trojans at MVNU
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Taylor women's basketball team led Mount Vernon Nazarene for 39 minutes and 49 seconds but an MVNU 3-pointer with 11 seconds to play derailed the Trojans' bid for a road victory.
Taylor (9-16, 4-9) led 57-48 with 2:54 to play but the Cougars scored 13 of the game's final 15 points, including the final six on back-to-back 3-pointers to prevent TU from the season sweep of the series.
The Trojans' Taylor Degenkolb scored a career-high 17 points, knocking down four 3-pointers and adding five points at the line to lead TU. Senior Becca Daniels added ten points and fellow senior Kelsey Bryant finished one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds.
Taylor struggled from the floor, connecting on just 18-of-58 (31 percent) from the floor, including 7-for-20 (35 percent) from beyond the arc while MVNU shot 44.4 percent (25-54) from the floor and 4-for-12 from 3-point range. The Trojans won the battle for the glass 41-33 but the Cougars dominated the paint, outscoring Taylor 32-14 in the paint.
Taylor is back in action again on Saturday as the Trojans head to Spring Arbor for their fourth consecutive road game. Tip is slated for 1:00 pm.
