Trojans Ride Hot Shooting to Victory Over Marygrove
UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women's basketball team rode 54-percent shooting to a 19-point halftime lead and never looked back on its way to a 93-78 win over Marygrove on Wednesday night at Paul Patterson Court.
TU started quickly on offense, rattling off 32 points in the first quarter to give the Trojans a ten-point cushion after 10 minutes of play. Cassidy Wyse and Kendall Bradbury each scored 11 points in the opening stanza.
Marygrove (1-3) made a run to cut the TU lead to eight with 6:08 left in the second quarter, but Taylor responded with 11 straight points to inflate the lead to 19 with just over four minutes remaining until halftime. Trojans pushed the lead up to 21 with 1:09 remaining in the second quarter when Haley Stratman knocked down her fourth three-pointer of the game.
Taylor hit 21-of-39 shots in the first half, including nine-of-18 from beyond the arc to take a 60-41 lead over the Mustangs into halftime. Bradbury led the way for the Trojans with 21 points at the break on 7-of-10 shooting.
TU cooled off in the second half, but still increased the lead to 28 with six minutes left in the contest before cruising to the 93-78 final tally.
The Trojans assisted on 24 of the team's 33 made shots and nearly doubled-up Marygrove on the boards, outrebounding the Mustangs 45-24.
Bradbury continued her stellar play this season with her third-straight game of at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. The sophomore finished with 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Stratman poured in 18 points off the bench on six-of-nine shooting, including four triples. Wyse added 17 points after hitting seven of her eight shots from the floor and Lacey Garrett chipped in six rebounds, four points, three assists and two steals for Taylor.
