UPLAND, Ind. – Aubrey Wright's lone field goal of the night came at the most opportune time, as the TU sophomore's putback layup at the buzzer gave the Trojans a 62-60 victory over Saint Francis on Wednesday inside Odle Arena.
The win ended a streak of 13 consecutive losses against the Cougars, with TU's last win over USF coming on December 1, 2010.
Taylor scored 11 of the game's first 15 points to take an early 11-to-four lead, but Saint Francis clawed back to take its first lead of the contest, 17-16, 31 seconds into the second period.
Neither team found more than four points of separation in the second quarter, and the Trojans took a slim, 28-27 lead into intermission.
Saint Francis (11-14, 6-7 CL) opened the second half with five quick points to take a 32-28 lead just 1:16 into the third quarter, and the Cougars would remain in front for the majority of the period. Josie Cobb provided foreshadowing of the game's final play, as the junior knocked down a jumper as time expired in the third quarter, bringing TU to within one of USF, 45-44, entering the final period.
Saint Francis built up a 58-51 lead with 3:52 remaining in regulation, its largest advantage of the game for the Cougars. Kendall Bradbury responded with seven unanswered points to bring the Trojans to a tie at 58 with 1:17 left in the game, setting up the dramatic finish. A pair of USF free throws made it 60-58 in favor of the visitors before Cassidy Wyse's bucket with 51 seconds left knotted the score at 60 points apiece. The Cougars came up empty on their next possession, and Taylor took a timeout with 24 seconds remaining to set up the final play of the game. Cobb's original shot in the waning seconds was no good, but Wright grabbed the rebound in traffic and put it back up and in at the buzzer, lifting the Trojans to the thrilling 62-60 victory.
Bradbury poured in 30 points on 10-of-14 from the floor and three-of-four from distance, while also collecting 10 rebounds, three steals and three assists to lead Taylor. Wyse added 10 points and six rebounds, while Wright provided seven rebounds and four assists in addition to her late-game heroics.
The Trojans (11-14, 6-7 CL) will return to action on Saturday, when the team will hit the road to take on Mount Vernon Nazarene (9-16, 3-10 CL) at 1:00 pm.
