Win-Streak Snapped at Home against No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan
UPLAND, Ind. – In its final home game of the regular season, the Taylor University women's basketball team hosted No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan (24-4, 13-3) and started strong before a tumultuous second half sent the Trojans to the locker room with an 85-54 loss, which snapped a four-game Taylor win-streak.
The third quarter, in particular, was saturated with trouble for the home team, as the Trojans made just three baskets and turned the ball over seven times while the Wildcats shot 53.3 percent from the field en route to a 23-8 third-quarter advantage.
The momentum had already begun to swing in the second quarter, though, in which Indiana Wesleyan scored on seven of its 12 shots from the floor and four of seven shots from three. The Wildcats' proficient shooting outpaced a solid showing by Taylor, who posted a 42.9-percent field-goal percentage while knocking down three of six team shots from deep.
The Trojan offense was even sharper in the first frame, however, in which Taylor nurtured a three-point lead while shooting 57.1 percent on 14 shots taken. Sophomore guard, Claycee West, sparked the offense early for the Trojans, scoring the team's first five points of the game.
West finished the first half with a team-leading 12 points and ended the game with 17, scoring on seven of her 12 shots taken, including three from deep.
Gretchen Moll and Merideth Deckard were the only other Trojans to join West in the double-digit point category, however, each with 11 and 10, respectively, as Taylor lost its first game in over two weeks.
Taylor (14-11, 8-5) is next slated to play on Saturday, February 19th, when the Trojans battle St. Francis (15-8, 9-5) for third-place in the Crossroads League standings at 1:00 pm.
