Turnovers Spoil Home-Opener as Trojans Lose to Midway
UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor (3-2) women's basketball team played its 2022 home-opener on Tuesday evening, a night on which RV Midway (1-1) crashed the coming-home party with a 10-point win over the Trojans, 73-63.
Turnovers proved a significant factor for the Taylor offense, as the Trojans coughed up 26 miscues in response to the Eagle defense. Taylor has now posted 22 or more turnovers in each of its last three games, negating any advantage the Trojans might create in the rebounding column.
Taylor outrebounded Midway 46-36 on Tuesday night, but offensive miscues stripped the Trojans of any offensive momentum, especially in the first and fourth quarters which accounted for 15 of Taylor's 26 turnovers.
Taylor Westgate led the Trojans with 19 points and 14 boards, scoring her second double-double of the season and extending her streak of 16-points-or-more to five games. Westgate now owns the second-best points-per-game average in the Crossroads League with a mark of 20.8. The Marion, Indiana, native also ranks in the league's top-five with a mark of 9.2 rebounds-per-game.
Westgate scored 14 of her 19 points in the first half, after which Ariel Dale took over the TU offense by scoring 12 of her 15 points in the second half. Dale has now posted double-digit point totals in three of Taylor's five games so far in 2022.
Meanwhile, junior, Lauren Farb, matched a career-high with eight points and four boards off the bench, and Gretchen Moll missed out on the second double-double of her senior season by a single rebound, as she totaled 10 points and nine boards.
Taylor (3-2) will look to bounce back at home on Friday, November 11, when the Trojans host IU-Kokomo (0-5) at 7:00 pm.
