Trojans Suffer Blowout Loss in Regular-Season Finale at No. 6 Marian
INDIANAPOLIS – The Taylor women's basketball team closed the books on its 2022-2023 regular season on Wednesday evening, when the Trojans (15-13, 8-10 CL) lost by a final score of 85-48 to No. 6 Marian (24-4, 15-3 CL) on the road.
Taylor suffered from 21 turnovers in its 37-point loss to the Knights, marking the fifth-straight game in which the Trojans have totaled 16 turnovers or more.
Meanwhile, when the Trojans maintained possession the bottom of the net proved troublesome to reach, as TU shot just 29.8 percent from the floor and just 6-20 from deep.
Taylor Westgate and Gretchen Moll combined for 23 of Taylor's 48 total points, while Moll led the way with nine rebounds. Jillian Osswald, meanwhile, played significant minutes off the bench for Taylor, posting eight points and three boards in 26 minutes of play.
Nonetheless, the Trojans struggled to muster momentum on the offensive end throughout the night, spotlighted by a mere six-point third quarter in which the Trojans were outscored 24-6.
With the loss, Taylor (15-13, 8-10 CL) secured a six-seed in the upcoming Crossroads League Tournament, drawing the third-seeded RV Grace (20-8, 13-5 CL) in a quarterfinal matchup.
Taylor and Grace are set to square off in Winona Lake, Indiana, on Tuesday, February 21, at 7:00 pm.
