Five Trojans Finish in Double Figures as Taylor Tops Calumet
WHITING, Ind. – The Taylor women's basketball team never trailed as it cruised to an 88-37 road victory over Calumet (0-2) Friday night.
TU (2-0) turned points into turnovers early and often throughout the contest, as it registered 31 points off the 25 takeaways it had in the game. Ava Henson and Claycee West served as catalysts in the first quarter with two steals apiece, as Taylor buried four opening-quarter threes to jump out to a 23-8 lead.
The Trojan lead was stretched to 40-19 by halftime thanks in part to Taylor Westgate's nine-point, six-rebound effort in the second period.
Hope Custer led TU's defense to a shutout in the third quarter by recording three steals in the frame. Six team steals factored into the 10 Calumet turnovers in the period, as the Trojans outscored the Crimson Wave 21-0 to give them a 61-19 advantage.
Taylor added a season-high 27 points in the fourth quarter on 47.4 percent shooting to go along with seven made free throws to conclude its impressive performance.
Westgate led the way for the Trojans with 17 points and 13 rebounds. She was joined by Henson, Quinn Kelly, Custer and West as TU's players with double-digit points totals.
Defensively, six Trojans had multiple steals, led by West's four. Osswald, Custer and Henson each contributed with three takeaways.
TU returns home on Wednesday, Nov. 1, to face Madonna (1-0) inside Odle Arena at 6 p.m.
