
Trojans Claim Tournament Title at Swan Lake
PLYMOUTH, Ind. – The 23rd-ranked Taylor women's golf team notched its second tournament title of the season as the Trojans rolled to victory at the Swan Lake Intercollegiate on Saturday.
Freshman Nicole Jung narrowly missed out on her third collegiate victory in just her fourth start as the Bolivian finished in second place, one stroke behind the tournament medalist, with a two-round total of 151 (77-74).
Sophomore Maddie Thomas collected a third place finish, her third top-3 finish in four starts this season, with a two-day total of 154 (77-77).
Taylor battled rain and wind for the final third of the round but still managed the low team score of the day with a 308. In addition to the 74 from Jung and 77 from Thomas the Trojans also counted a 77 from freshman Taylor French and a pair of 80's from junior Elizabeth Jackson and sophomore Annie Stimmel.
The Trojans tallied a two-day total of 620 (312-308) to finish 11 shots clear of Indiana Wesleyan at 631 (320-311). No. 17 Bethel (316-319) and Cardinal Stritch (325-310) tied for third place at 635 while Olivet Nazarene (343-328) finished in fifth place at 671.
Taylor also received solid play from senior Grace Elenbaas with a final round 82 which matched the final round tally for junior Raquel Helton. Sophomore Alexis Harris carded a final round 91 while freshman Mariah Williams tallied a final round score of 95.
Four Trojans finished inside the top 10 on the 5,829-yard, par-72 layout of the Silver Course at Swan Lake Resort. Along with Jung and Thomas, French finished in a tie for seventh place at 157 (80-77) and Stimmel finished in a tie for ninth place at 158 (78-80).
The Trojans, who have not finished outside the top two in four tournament starts this fall, will compete for the final time during the fall season on October 23-24 at the Whistling Straits Championship at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Kohler, Wisconsin.
