
Trojans Dominate Final Round to Claim Victory
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The 18th-ranked Taylor women's golf team blitzed the 5,962-yard, par-72 layout of Blackthorn Golf Club with a team score of 292 to pull away for a 16-shot victory in the Battle at Blackthorn.
Taylor entered the final round tied with No. 16 Bethel but the Trojans posted the lowest team score in the 18-year history of the event with a 4-over par 292 on Saturday.
Sophomore Elizabeth Kemper led the charge for the Trojans in the final round with a career-low round of 1-under par 71 that included birdies on each of her last two holes. Kemper's final round charge helped the sophomore from Fairland, Indiana secure a top-10 finish with a two-round total of 155 (84-71). Kemper played the par-5's at Blackthorn in 1-under for the tournament, tied for the top mark on the par-5's in the field.
Senior All-American Nicole Jung and freshman Sabrina Langerak each carded final round 73's to finish tied for second place, three shots behind Olivet Nazarene's Margaux Catafort-Sil.
Jung finished second in the field with 23 pars for the tournament, posting scores of 76-73 to finish at 149. Langerak's final round was a rollercoaster of sorts as the Grand Rapids, Michigan native made six birdies on Saturday. The freshman led the field with eight birdies for the tournament and finished at 149 with rounds of 76-73.
Freshman Ellie Karst posted a career-low round of 75 during Saturday's final round. The Noblesville, Indiana native displayed impressive ball-striking, hitting nine of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens. Karst earned a tie for seventh place at 154 (79-74).
Fellow freshman Ellie Beavins added a final round 78 to also finish tied for seventh place at 154, tallying rounds of 76-78. Beavins finished third in the field in par-4 scoring at 4-over for the weekend.
Taylor's team score of 292 is one shot shy of the record for the lowest team score in program history, tying the 292 round the Trojans tallied in round two of the 2021 Crossroads League Championship.
The victory marked the second for Taylor this season. TU will return to action on Oct. 4-5 when Taylor travels to Harbor Shores Golf Club in Benton Harbor, Michigan.
