Trojans Shutout in 1-0 Loss to RV Marian
INDIANAPOLIS - The Taylor women's soccer team fell to RV Marian Tuesday night by a score of 1-0. The loss moved the Trojans to 5-5-1 on the year and 1-1 in Crossroads League play.
TU and Marian opened up the game remaining fairly even. Both teams fired off three shots in the opening 20 minutes, but Marian managed to strike first. The Knights scored in the second minute of the game off a goal by Logan Bowling.
The Trojans would go the rest of the half without a shot attempt, while Marian would manage two attempts. Both shots would be saved by freshman Lauren Engelkes, who finished with three saves in the opening 45-minutes of play.
The second half of play was much like the first, as both teams remained even in the second segment of play. The Trojans again had three shot opportunities, but were unable to find the back of the net. TU finished the game with six total shots, two of which came on goal.
Marian managed four shot attempts, but none were on goal in the second half. The Knights finished with nine shots on the evening with four of them coming on goal.
Engelkes' three saves of the game all came in the first half of play, while Marian goalie, Melissa Sturgill, finished with two saves in the contest.
Sophomores Megan Kammer and Hadlee Yescott each finished with two shots in the game, while sophomore Nikki Zaino and senior Courtney Selle each added one shot for the Trojans. Despite leading the Trojans in shots on the year, junior Shelbi Lowe was held in check as she was unable to attempt a shot in the game.
TU will be back in action on Saturday, October 3 when the Trojans play host to Goshen inside Turner Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
