Home Finale Spoiled By 1-0 Loss
UPLAND, Ind. – In its home finale, the Taylor women's soccer team lost a nail-biter to No. 15 Grace (10-4-1, 5-1-1 CL) by a score of 1-0.
Play was competitive throughout, as each team controlled the ball with craft en route to landing six shots on goal. Two of those came in the first half for the Lancers, both of which, however, were saved by Trojan goalie, Hannah Brackenbury.
Senior, Linli Tu, landed the Trojans' only shot on goal in the first half, yet the net stayed clean. The match moved into intermission locked at zero a piece.
Play got all the more competitive in the second half, as the Trojans nearly matched Grace shot-for-shot. Grace managed to take eight shots, while Taylor took seven. Along the way, however, Grace scored the game's only goal.
The goal came in the 12th minute of the second half, scored by the Lancers' leading scorer. The Trojans responded in a fury, though, as senior, Erin Teevans struck an optimistic shot only to be saved by the opponent's goalie.
Later in the half, Teevans came within inches of another goal, but the Lancer defense performed its best Houdini maneuver, tricking the entire Taylor crowd into celebration while the ball was stopped short by a Grace defender.
With much of the crowd's jaw dropped, the score remained 1-0 Grace as the final seconds ticked off the clock.
Brackenbury secured five saves, but, unfortunately, one goal was all Grace needed as the Trojans lost their final match of the season inside Turner Stadium.
Taylor returns to action on Wednesday, October 27, when the Trojans travel to Indianapolis to take on No. 6 Marion (13-2-1, 5-1-1 CL) at 7:00 pm.
