Trojans Battle No. 6 Marian But Fall in Overtime
INDIANAPOLIS – The Taylor University women's soccer team battled No. 6 Marian (14-2-1, 6-1-1 CL) for more than 90 minutes, before allowing the match's only goal and falling to the Knights 1-0 in overtime.
Marian started the match with speed, arranging two corner kicks and taking two shots in the opening five minutes. Taylor soon responded with a shot of its own, taken by Linli Tu but saved by the opponent's goalie.
From that point on, however, Marian controlled the flow of the game, taking an additional nine shots in the opening half while snuffing out any sense of Trojan response.
Play moved into the half tied at zero, with Marian outshooting the Trojans 11-to-one.
In the second half, the Trojans continued to hold off the highly-ranked Knights, maintaining a clean net in response to Marian's four shots on-goal.
The Trojan offense picked up in the second period, though, firing six shots, three of which landed on frame and one of which struck the cross bar via Tu's firm foot. Senior, Erin Teevans, contributed two shots on-goal, yet the match remained tied at zero after 90 minutes of play.
Hannah Brackenbury secured seven saves throughout the match, before surrendering the only goal of the night roughly three minutes into overtime.
Taylor (10-6, 2-6 CL) will look to bounce back and finish the regular season on a high note, as the Trojans travel to Fort Wayne to take on St. Francis (2-12-1, 0-8 CL) on Saturday, October 30th, at 7:00 pm.
