Trojans Dominate in Season Finale
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Taylor University women's soccer team steamrolled St. Francis (2-14-1, 0-10 CL) on Saturday night, scoring four goals while preventing the Cougars from taking a single shot.
Taylor did not waste much time before taking the lead, striking the back of the net twice in the opening 14 minutes, in both of which, senior, Erin Teevans, had a role to play.
Teevans, first, set up fellow senior, Ali Vander Kolk, for her fifth goal of the season, knocking the ball in via her head. The Barlett, Illinois, native then scored a goal of her own, moving into double-digit goals on the season as she racked in her 10th.
Up 2-0, the scoring parade would pause for a moment before the Trojans rapidly tacked on two more. Freshman, Sarah Mullins, ignited the short burst for Taylor, scoring her third goal of the season on Claire Massey's team-leading fifth assist.
Senior, Linli Tu, entered in on the action just 90 seconds later, as she scored the fifth goal of her senior season.
The Trojans struck two further shots on goal before the end of the half, both of which, however, were saved by the Cougar defense. Taylor went into the half up 4-0, while outshooting St. Francis 11-0.
There was not much action in the second half, nor did the Trojans need there to be, as Taylor arranged a handful of corner kicks and a couple more shots en route to maintaining its 4-0 lead.
The match ended with the Trojans on top 4-0, with Taylor having outshot the Cougars 13-0.
Taylor (11-6, 3-6 CL) will return to the pitch on Saturday, November 6th, in the opening round of the Crossroads League Tournament. The Trojans hold the seventh place in the league standings, earning them a match-up with crosstown rival No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan (13-3, 8-1 CL).
