Taylor Starts Season in Dominant Fashion
CHICAGO, IL. – Taylor (1-0) cruised to a season-opening win, 4-0, against Saint Xavier University on the road.
After dominating possession early, the Trojans capitalized by opening the scoring on a long-range strike by Claire Massey. Massey gathered a cross-field pass with acres of space in front of her. Massey took two touches and let it fly from 35 yards out, scoring the first goal of the young season.
Taylor continued to control the game, doubling its lead late in the first half. A foul on Saint Xavier awarded the Trojans a free kick from 25 yards out. Emma Goebel stepped up and blasted a shot into the top-right corner for the first goal of her TU career.
The defense was strong in the first half, not allowing a single shot by Saint Xavier (0-1), as Taylor took a 2-0 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
TU continued to pile on the pressure in the second half, scoring its third goal on a failed clearance by a Saint Xavier defender. The Trojans pressured the Cougars into their own six-yard box and as the defender tried to clear the ball, Chloe Sena was there to deflect it into the net for her first goal of the campaign.
Kiana Siefert, in her first game as a Trojan, finished off a brilliant move to score in the last minute of the game, concluding the scoring at 4-0. After collecting a pass down the left wing, Siefert dribbled past two defenders, before unloading a pin-point shot in the top-right corner for her first career goal.
The defense continued to be stout in the second half, allowing three total shots. Hannah Brackenbury collected her 14th career shutout, saving the lone shot on goal from the Cougars.
Taylor continues its season against Concordia University (0-0) on Saturday, August 27th, on the road in Ann Arbor, Michigan at 5:00 pm.
