Massey Shines in Fifth-Straight Victory
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Taylor (5-0) earned its fifth-straight victory to open the season, 3-0, against Georgetown (2-2-1) on Saturday afternoon.
A standout performance from Claire Massey led the way for the Trojans, as Massey provided a career-high three assists, each to a different teammate on the way to the 3-0 win.
TU continued its aggressive starts to matches and scored the opener in the 17th minute. Massey took a pass from Moriah Dunham and surveyed the field before sending a long pass down the center that Lauren Collins controlled with one touch before firing past the goalie for her second goal in as many games.
Massey was the provider again for the Trojan's second goal of the game. After earning a corner, Massey sent a brilliant cross into the box and Audrey Grimm got her head to it first, directing it into the back of the net for her second goal of the season in the 39th minute.
Taylor continued to push up the field after halftime, launching nine shots in the first ten minutes after the break.
That pressure paid off in the 72nd minute, when Kiana Siefert tallied her team-leading fourth goal of the season. TU took a corner and Massey controlled and passed off to Siefert when the goalie came out of her net. Seifert calmly slotted it home past multiple Tiger defenders for a 3-0 lead.
Brianna Rawlings got into her second-career game and collected her first two collegiate saves in goal during the last ten minutes of the match.
The Trojan's amazing offense continues to shine, firing 28 shots in the match, with 15 of those on target. That brought TU's season totals to 130 shots, which ranks fourth in the NAIA, while playing fewer games than two of the teams ahead of them.
Taylor returns to Turner Stadium on Wednesday, September 14, to take on Indiana Tech (1-1) at 7:00 pm in their next match.
