Snyder Sparkles in Trojans Home Victory
UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women's soccer team (7-0) defeated Madonna, 3-0, Friday afternoon, amidst sweltering heat inside Turner Stadium.
Taylor's seven-win start to the season matches its best start since 2016 when they began the season with nine-straight victories.
The Trojans continued to overwhelm their opponents on the offensive end, tallying 32 shots and 13 on goal compared to just four and one respectively for the Crusaders.
After an even first 15 minutes of action, Taylor got on the board in the 16th minute. Claire Massey sent a searching long ball down the field, where Chloe Sena raced to meet it in the box and had the ball deflect off of her before a defender and the goalie collided with her, leaving the net wide open. Kiana Siefert reached the ball first and took one touch before scoring easily on the open goal. The goal was the sixth of the season for Siefert, who now leads the team and the Crossroads League in goals.
The goal put even more life into the Trojans, as they dominated the rest of the half, but could not find another goal before heading into the break with a 1-0 advantage.
Madonna (4-2) fired the first shot of the second half and its only one on target, as they searched for an equalizer. It proved to be the Crusaders' last shot of the match, with the Trojan defense denying them any further.
TU scored the all-important next goal in the 56th minute. After winning a throw-in, Hannah Dempsey threw the ball into the box and Sophie Snyder let it run past her before turning and firing a first-time shot into the back of the net to double the lead.
Taylor quickly piled on, scoring less than a minute later to put the match out of reach. Snyder was the recipient of another throw-in and turned her defender around before sending in a cross that Lauren Collins slotted home for her fourth goal in four matches, as her hot stretch continues for the Trojans.
Siefert led the offense with nine shots and five on goal, while 13 total Trojans attempted a shot, with nine of those firing multiple.
TU finishes non-league play on Wednesday, September 21st on the road against Lawrence Tech (1-2-1), with kick-off coming at 7:00 pm.
