RV Taylor Cruises Past Huntington to Notch Longest Unbeaten Run in Program History
HUNTINGTON, Ind. – RV Taylor (9-0-1) made history with its 6-1 victory over Huntington (2-8-1, 0-0-2) Wednesday afternoon, setting the program record for the longest unbeaten run at 10 matches. The previous record was nine matches in a row, also under Head Coach Scott Stan, in 2016.
Plenty of the TU players impressed in the high-scoring match, highlighted by two goals from both Kiana Siefert and Sydney Thompson.
TU started the game on the front foot and quickly found the back of the net in the third minute. A long cross sent in by Claire Massey, positioned on the left wing, found its way to Siefert, who calmly controlled it and sent a shot into the bottom corner past the goalie. The assist for Massey was her fifth, which also tops the team.
The Trojans got their second goal in the 24th minute, after continuing to dominate the possession and opportunities. Thompson, fresh off the bench, poked the ball away from a Huntington defender on the edge of the box and with her next touch, fired a shot into the back of the net for her second goal in as many games.
Taylor continued to be aggressive in the second half, scoring four times in the second half.
Lauren Collins scored her sixth goal of the season in the 52nd minute. Making a run down the middle, before firing past the keeper into the top right corner for an impressive goal.
Siefert scored her second of the day and team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 59th minute. Following Collin's lead, Siefert made a run down the middle and launched a shot that found the back of the net after the keeper got a touch, but was unable to prevent it from crossing the line.
After just missing a goal mere seconds earlier, Libby Thomas secured her first-career goal for the purple and gold in the 69th minute. Caroline Monberg sent a perfect through ball into the box where Thomas took one touch before rocketing the ball into the goal for Taylor's fifth goal of the day.
TU was not finished, however, as Thompson got her second of the match in the 77th minute. Sarah Mullins sent an inviting ball into the opposing box that Thompson somehow snuck past the keeper before putting it into the back of the net.
Huntington spoiled the shutout in the 89th minute, with a goal from outside the box to make the final tally 6-1.
The Trojan's offense was stellar with 29 shots that gave them a total of 256, which leads the NAIA and six corners for a whopping 80 on the season, good for second in the NAIA.
RV Taylor faces off against cross-county rival No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan (8-0-1, 1-0-0) in Marion for a key Crossroads League matchup on Saturday, October 1, with kick-off scheduled for 7:30 pm.
