UPLAND, Ind. – RV Taylor (9-2-1, 1-2-1) put up a great fight against No. 3 Spring Arbor (8-1-2, 3-1-0), but two goals within five minutes late in the second half put an end to the upset bid.
Taylor came out swinging, firing the match's first two shots and forcing a save from the Cougars' goalie.
A back-and-forth first half continued with both teams getting opportunities in front of the goal but coming away empty-handed as Hannah Brackenbury produced three of her six saves in the first half.
Taylor fired six more shots, including Chloe Sena forcing another save late in the half.
TU continued to battle in the physical match early in the second half, firing three shots in the first ten minutes of the half.
Sarah Mullins found a foot in the match and produced another high-quality opportunity but was denied by the Cougar goalie as the match remained scoreless.
Spring Arbor fires four shots in a four-minute stretch that ended with the first goal of the match off the head of a Cougar forward to make the score 1-0.
The Cougars quickly doubled the advantage four minutes later, scoring after the ball bounced around in the box to put the match away at 2-0.
TU tried to regroup and get a goal back, but saw its last two shots of the match blocked by the Spring Arbor defense.
RV Taylor faces off against Bethel (5-3-4, 1-2-1) on Wednesday, October 12, inside Turner Stadium. The Trojans will look to bounce back after consecutive defeats to ranked teams in a 7:00 pm kick-off.
