Second-Half Surge Fuels RV Taylor Victory
Broadcast Highlights | Sideline Highlights
UPLAND, Ind. – Three goals in seven minutes in the second half vaulted RV Taylor (10-2-1, 2-2-1) to a 5-2 victory over Bethel (5-4-4, 1-3-1) on Wednesday night.
Audrey Grimm provided a huge spark, scoring two second-half goals, including the game-winner in a bounce-back victory for TU at home.
After an early shot from the Pilots, the Trojans started to control the match and eventually grabbed the lead in the 25th minute. TU earned its first penalty of the season and Hannah Dempsey calmly stepped up and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to grab a 1-0 lead.
The Pilots quickly equalized five minutes later. A shot from just outside the box found its way into the back of the net to bring the game even once again.
Bethel's goal gave them energy, but neither team could break the deadlock before the halftime whistle blew.
The second half saw Taylor erupt for four more goals while the Pilots added one of their own.
The Trojans turned aggressor in the 64th minute firing three shots in quick succession with Libby Thomas leading the charge.
Grimm substituted back in and quickly found the back of the net with a terrifically placed shot in the far-left corner from just outside the box as the Trojans retook the lead at 2-1.
Grimm was not finished scoring on the night though, latching onto a terrific cross from Lauren Collins to secure her second goal of the evening and fourth of the season for the Trojans.
Taylor continued to attack with another goal in the 75th minute off of the foot of Sydney Thompson. Thomas made another great run and fed Thompson, who took a touch before launching it into the back of the net for a 4-1 lead for TU.
Bethel looked for a way back into the match and found it with a penalty that Audrey Lerch converted to decrease the deficit to two with 12 minutes left to play.
The Trojans would find the net once again in the 85th minute to put the match to rest when Sophia Snyder controlled an errant goal kick before dribbling into the box and scoring her third goal of the year.
After an emphatic win, TU returns to action on the road against Goshen (4-8-1, 1-4-0) on Saturday, October 15, in Crossroads League action, with kick-off set for 7:00 pm.
