RV Taylor Routs Saint Francis on Senior Night
UPLAND, Ind. – RV Taylor (12-3-2, 4-3-2) celebrated Senior Night with a 4-0 rout of Saint Francis (4-10-4, 0-7-2) in its final regular season match before the postseason begins.
The Trojans scored on the match's first shot two minutes after kickoff, when Claire Massey raced down the left wing and surveyed her options in the box before finding Audrey Grimm, who slotted home the opener for her fifth goal of the season.
The early goal set the tone for the match, as Taylor launched 36 shots and 20 on goal.
TU continually found themselves in the Cougars' box during the first period but saw each of its opportunities denied until the 37th minute. After assisting the first goal, Massey decided to take one for herself after being left wide open on the left wing for Emma Goebel to pass to off of a free kick. Massey took one touch before firing past the keeper to double the Trojans' advantage.
Senior Night festivities took place at halftime, with Emma Shoemaker, Hannah Dempsey, Sophie Snyder, Claire Nieshalla, and Lauren Cina all being honored on the field.
Taylor scored early in the second half, with Grimm securing her second of the match and sixth of the season in the 52nd minute. Snyder streaked down the right wing and placed a perfect through ball to Grimm, who took a touch to evade the goalie and placed the ball in the back of the net for a 3-0 lead.
TU was not finished, as Lauren Collins got into the scoresheet with her seventh goal of the season in the 77th minute. Collins made a great run from midfield before playing a beautiful one-two with Chloe Sena that resulted in Collins lacing a shot past the goalie to finalize the scoring for Taylor.
Another great moment occurred in the second half when after being subbed out one-by-one early, the five seniors all subbed back into the game together in the 84th minute.
RV Taylor continues its season next Saturday, November 5, in the Crossroad League Tournament Quarterfinals against No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan (13-2-2, 6-2-1) on the road, with a kick-off time yet to be announced.
