Trio of Trojans Score as TU Cruises Past Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. – The #RV Taylor women's soccer team (3-1-2) got back in the win column Wednesday afternoon with a decisive 3-0 shutout over Madonna (3-2-0).

Libby Thomas put the Trojans on the board in the sixth minute with a drawing, right-to-left shot that found the top right corner of the net. The eventual game-winning goal was Thomas' first of the season, and Sarah Mullins earned her second assist on the play.

13 minutes later, Brooke Cimini scored her first career goal on a free kick from distance to put TU on top, 2-0. Cimini's shot, which hit the inside of the left post and bounced out before officials ruled a goal, was the first the defender had attempted in 2023.

While the score stood at 2-0 through halftime, both teams made goalie changes at the break. Taylor gave starter Hannah Brackenbury a rest, bringing in Brianna Rawlings for her second appearance of the season. Meanwhile, Madonna replaced Mackenzie Fifer with Veronica Kozak.

Not to be deterred by the Crusaders' goalie change, Taylor took a commanding lead early in the second half when Kiana Siefert made a perfect cross to Chloe Sena who finished the play with a goal, her third of the season. Siefert notched the assist on the pass, which brought her career points total to 25.

The three-goal cushion was more than enough for the Trojans, who relied heavily on their defense to conclude the match.

Rawlings was kept busy in her share of the action, but the sophomore saved all five shots she faced to complete the combined shutout, good for Taylor's third of the year. Brackenbury saved one shot as she improved her goalkeeper record to 3-1-2.

TU owned slight team advantages in shots, shots on goal and corner kicks over the duration of the match.

The Trojans close out their three-game road trip on Saturday, Sept. 16, when they play at Indiana Tech (2-3-0) at 1 p.m.
