TU Edges Waldorf, Falls to No. 20 Jamestown in Wisconsin
LA CROSSE, Wisc. – The Trojans opened their fourth tournament of the young season with a competitive four-set loss against No. 20 Jamestown and a hard-fought five-set win over Waldorf on Friday.
Taylor went toe-to-toe with Jamestown (8-1) in the early match, as each squad tallied 51 kills and hit over .275 in the contest. The Jimmies proved to be too much on offense however, hitting .380 with only 10 miscues to outpace TU by a 25-23, 25-15, 21-25, 25-17 margin.
Ryan Czerniak carried the Purple and Gold attack with one of her finest career efforts with 13 kills in 17 swings without an error. The trio of Julia Pomerenke, Kacy Bragg and Grace Isaacs also played well to combine for 21 kills to just five errors, with Isaacs also adding four blocks. Samantha Korn anchored the defense yet again, gathering 21 of TU's 41 digs in the match.
Taylor bounced back in the late affair against Waldorf (4-4), rallying for a 19-25, 25-23, 25-21, 19-25, 15-12 victory.
Bragg highlighted the five-set thriller for TU, posting 10 kills with only one error, 17 assists, three service aces, seven digs and four blocks in the all-around gem. Korn posted another strong showing with 20 digs and Amanda Adams finished with 13 kills.
Taylor (10-5) will face a pair of top-10 foes on Saturday, playing No. 5 Viterbo (12-2) at 11:00 am and No. 7 Northwester (10-0) at 2:00 pm.
