No. 3 IWU Streaks Past Taylor
MARION, Ind. – Taylor traveled across county and went toe-to-toe with No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan early in each of Saturday's three sets, before the Wildcats took control of each game and swept TU by the score of 25-19, 25-17, 25-14.
TU responded from a 7-2 deficit in the opener to draw even at 12-12 and later trailed by just two at 19-17, before IWU (25-1, 12-1 CL) closed the game on a 6-2 stretch.
The second set saw Taylor jump to leads of 3-1 and 6-3, only for the hosts to respond by scoring 16 of the next 21 points to take control. IWU again used runs of 7-1 and 8-1 to wash away an early Trojan lead in the third en route to taking the match.
Julia Pomerenke and Amanda Adams each slammed eight kills to account for all but 10 of TU's terminations in the contest.
Samantha Korn ended with 12 digs, with Grace Isaacs and Pomerenke each collecting two blocks. Lauryn Mekelburg notched a solo block and TU got a pair of aces each from the strong serves of Nikki Parrett and Kacy Bragg.
Taylor (17-14, 7-7 CL) will look to return to the win column when it plays at Bethel (10-20, 3-10 CL) on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
